Dipl.-Chem. Dr. rer. nat. Ute Kilger
Ute Kilger PhD is one of the most recognized patent lawyers in Europe. Based in Berlin, Dr. Kilger leads the Intellectual Property Practice as a partner of Boehmert & Boehmert. Dr. Kilger is the co-chair of the Global Series Committee of the Federal Circuit Bar Association (FCBA). Since the beginning of 2020, she has been an elected member of the board of the German Chamber of Patent Attorneys. She is frequently asked to speak at events globally including in the USA, China, India and all over Europe.
Clients include world leading pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology companies and several academic institutes dealing in all manners of patent related issues including: obtaining and enforcement of property rights, due diligence, mergers and acquisitions, contract negotiations, and licensing agreements.
Dr. Kilger is licensed as a German and European patent Attorney. She is a member of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR), the Association of Intellectual Property Experts (VPP), and the Licensing Executive Society (LES). Prior to joining Boehmert & Boehmert, she worked for over a decade at Boehringer Mannheim GmbH, Roche Diagnostics GmbH and Schering AG, where she became the head of department for Patents Diagnostics. Dr. Kilger has worked in the USA as a visiting attorney at the patent law firm Nikaido, Marmelstein Murray and Oram LLP in Washington D.C.
Dr. Kilger studied chemistry at the University of Merseburg and completed her PhD at the Free University of Berlin in the Department of Biochemistry focusing on protein chemistry, receptor structures, and signal transduction. Her doctoral research focused on analyzing the protein structure using FTIR-spectroscopy.
Dr. Kilger is a lecturer in Intellectual Property at the University of Potsdam, and the SPARK and Charité programs of the Charité-Universitätsmedizin in Berlin.
In 2019, Dr. Kilger was recognized as one of the Best Lawyers 2019 in the field of biotechnology in Germany. In 2015, Legal 500 Germany 2015 highlighted her accomplishments in world leading license agreements.
She is Chairman of the Advisory Board of Sphingotec GmbH and of the Chamber of Patent Attorneys (PAK).
Dr. Kilger is a passionate piano player, an avid runner, skier, and reader, and spends a considerable amount of time understanding the modern art and culture of Germany. She is the proud mother of a daughter who studies in Berlin.
